Find your comed voicey4/28/2023 ![]() In June, our executives appeared at the Illinois Commerce Commission's summer preparedness session to discuss ComEd's record-breaking reliability, how we’ve prepared for summer storms and our continued work to make the grid more resilient to climate change impacts. Since we started smart grid investments in 2012, we’ve avoided more than 17 million customer interruptions by installing digital "smart switches" that automatically reroute power around problem areas. How are we staying prepared ahead of storms? □ Download our ComEd mobile app, where you can quickly report outages and check for estimated restores times: /appįor more information on how you can be prepared for the next storm, visit: /Storm Food can stay frozen for 36 hours or more in a freezer if you keep the door closed. □ Protect your food by keeping refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. □ Make a list of emergency phone numbers, including 1-80 to report outages. □ If you’re dependent on electric-powered medical equipment, seek alternate arrangements in the event of an outage. □ Make provisions for special needs family members such as the elderly, disabled, medically affected or infants. □ Develop a family emergency plan that includes alternative arrangements should you need to leave your home. How can you stay prepared during a storm? ✔️Add and inspect winter survival kit to include flashlight, extra batteries, first aid kid, booster cables, ice scraper with brush, sand or kitty litter to use for traction, and flares or other bright objects. ✔️Inspect tire thread (replace if near wear limit) ✔️Switch to synthetic oil (handles the cold better) ✔️Check engine fluid levels (oil, coolant, washer fluid, etc.) ✔️ Warm clothing (hats, mittens, parkas, boots) ✔️Specialty items (medication, infant formula, etc.) ✔️Bottled water (1 gallon per person, per day, for at least 3 days) □Make sure you have these items on hand at home: ✔️Repair roof leaks and cut away tree branches that could fall on your home or other structure during a storm. ✔️Install storm or thermal-pane windows or cover windows with plastic from the inside. ✔️ Caulk and weather-strip doors and windows. ✔️Insulate any water lines that run along exterior walls so your water supply will be less likely to freeze.
